The story of the punctual Astronomer and the curious Engineer.

By Geet

The astronomer and the engineer being discussed are my two cats! They are friends with each other who at times fight like all boy cat’s do but generally get along.

My cats, aka the deified brats who hogg my bed on Sundays and are loved by my mom more than me are the most pampered little furballs I have ever seen.

In my life, their names are Kaahil and Orion. Kaahil is your typical troublesome ginger cat, with a furry tail, a ridiculously pink nose and a face with a permanent frown. His name translates to “lazy” in Hindi and his behavior is not much different than his name. He was always found belly-flopped on the bed, mouth wide open and would occasionally be found in superman pose (cats stretch their hand and feet while sleeping and it is often referred to as the superman pose). He would get up only once in the morning to have food and then sleep like a log the rest of the day. His morning unfortunately starts when it’s our night. He is a nocturnal animal you see, so he scratches, bites and finds about all the ways to keep you awake. Once he is done with his rampage, he sits on the bedroom windowsill and sagely looks at the sky. If he sees stars, he goes “OH NOT MORNING YET? GUESS I’M SLEEPING MORE THEN”. If his dumb brain realizes that it’s almost dawn his primal instinct is to wake mother up. It’s like he is on a strict routine, and everyone is revolving around it. He was from then known as “the Astronomer”. Orion on the other hand is the white cat with black patches, bright yellow eyes and universally standing ears. He is a few years younger than Kaahil and therefore more curious. He is the sort of cat who would think the lions on National Geographic are actually in front of him. He is intrigued by anything that is loud and moves. Probably explains why he is after those noisy crows. He detects the source of the sound and then proceeds to smack the object to see if it’s alive or not. He is obsessed with my dad’s laptop as its cooling fans spin very fast noisily because of overheating. Whenever my dad is cleaning his cycle, oiling the gears he comes closer, his eyes light up and he watches very keenly.

He is often called the engineer by my father. Nevertheless, both of them are a fierce duo and could even surpass the bossy dogs of our building. They are gutsy enough to walk right in front of the dogs and even smack them on the face even if they need to take a few nails down. They keep on having wild adventures and we always look forward to a few more.

About me Geet: I am a restless school going girl, who hangs around with friends, likes to play badminton, love’s art and when in a mood put’s pen to paper.
